Dumpster Treasures

Does anybody want to go treasure hunting? Before you say a resounding yes, think twice, because it is not on the usual place that people go to to hunt treasures! What I am talking about is in Dumpsters! That is right! D..U..M..P..S..T..E..R..S!!! The finds are unbelievable, if you can stomach the filth and smell of the dumpster! Oh, brother! Yuk!!! Why is there so many people looking for treasures in dumpsters? The economic situation for one thing, others just for the amusement and thrill of finding something of value. This is gaining in popularity that some people quit their day jobs scavenging garbages!!! Once they find something of value, if they do not need it, they resell it, either on the garage sale or in the internet! If they cannot resell it, they give it to a goodwill shop, and they get a charitable deduction on their tax! It is a win-win situation for some people, if you are brave enough to do it! Before you run to start your scavenging adventure, make sure the city does not have an ordinance against it!What are the usual find? Mostly food, fruits like bananas, apples; vegetables like green peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers. And these fruits and vegetables looked really good; the apples look crisp, the bananas with a little brown spots! Sometimes, there are some outdated meat, canned goods, tools, bicycle, VCR's, dishes, greeting cards, money. The list goes on and on and on. Why do we have so much excess,especially of food? For one thing, we live in a country that has an overabundance of food! Just look at the people walking. How many do you see that are overweight? Hmmm... A lot!!! We cannot control our urge to eat! Look at all the all you can eat buffet, sprouting all over America! We patronize it, because we like to eat, and that includes me!! Sad but true! We are a people who get satisfaction on feeding our faces!! Ha! Ha! Ha! Is this true or not? I bet everybody is nodding their heads in agreement! I remembered somebody from Europe who remarked how blessed and abundant we are with food!!! They do not have that kind of luxury in other parts of the world!!! We should really be very thankful!!! Do you know where the best places are to go digging for treasures? In the curbsides of peoples homes during their garbage days. You can get furnitures, television, bicycles, barbeque grill, to name a few. A good place, also, will be behind apartment buildings during the end or first of the month, because this is the moving day! Good finds can also be seen behind shopping centers, behind restaurants and in a farmers market, when they are ready to leave. The farmers haul can be very good, lots of fruits and vegetables!!!! And fresh, really fresh!!!! This one, I do not see anything wrong with it, the farmers are going home, and they do want want to haul their produce back, so they leave it near the dumpsters for people to take home.Some people prefer the dumpsters, but be very careful. You sound like you are talking from experience? Oh, no! I have not been digging for treasures, let alone in a dumpster! And more power to the people who does it! If they get what they want from it, good for them! If posible, go with someone or a group ( it is safer, and you have someone to hold the lid), and wear protective clothing ( in case they have hazardous materials, sharp objects, etcetera). You should also have a first aid kit, plastic bags, flashlights and wet wipes to clean up with! Wow! This is really intense! It seems we are out to go on an adventure. This is sort of an adventure. It gives me the creeps though. Oh, well, to each his own! Some parts of the world even go to the real dumping ground to hunt for leftover foods. Gross!!!! They get the leftover meat, clean it, boil it, add vegetables and seasonings, and presto! You have a delicious meal!! I wonder though how many end up with stomach trouble, considering where this food came from? I imagine a lot! But how come their government does not outlaw it? Probably because they cannot do anything about it, and many people are starving! Back to America, how come there are even decent people who scavenges food from the dumpsters? Because of the outrageous cost of food, and they do not want to spend their money on food that they can get free! Some of them have not seen a grocery store for years!!! And they love it! They are well satisfied with their find that they are introducing others to the art of dumpster diving! Would you do it????? Do you want to be a dumpster diver????
